Making Croatia look like Thailand. When Orange Spain asked us to recreate a “deserted island” where a family gets stranded, an “Isla Tropical”, we chose the stunning but remote shores of Mljet. Operating there required custom marine tech and airtight logistics, but the real comedy was the scale of our operation. To convincingly shoot a story about isolation and survival, we brought a massive production machinery whose crew was literally larger than the entire local population living on the island. We employed the locals and even with their ‘fjaka’ philosophy (philosophy of taking it really easy) we kept the set stress-free, dominated the off-the-grid challenges, and proved that for Vertigo, extreme locations just mean a workspace with a nice view.
