Making pies out of sh*t on the shortest night of the year. For Des Rocs’ Nowhere Kid, the idea was beautiful but unforgiving: take over a multi-story hotel and sahoot from a 15 meter scissor lift to capture 8 synchronized parallel realities in a single shot. To make things interesting, the US label insisted on shooting the video ASAP which landed us on June 18th a few days before literally the shortest night of the entire year. With almost zero time for rehearsals, disaster struck: our production designer fell severely ill 48 hours before the shoot. When you can’t give up, making pies out of sh*t comes easy. We managed to find the option b) and even the Vertigo core team rolled up their sleeves, lost a few pounds, and helped to hand-dress 8 distinct hotel rooms from scratch in under a day. We worked our muscles, tightly choreographed the cast to match the mechanical pacing of the lift, and executed a flawless, highly technical music video on time and within budget.
